Beyond Words
SOMETIMES things can not be adequately expressed or described with mere words.
Thus far, on our journey in Japan, there have been several things- people, places nad events, that defy description- words do not do them justice. For me, these are a few:
* The incredible sound of a gazillion cicadas chirping ion the trees. The noise is so loud that at first we could nopt believe that it was being made by insects
* The openness and friendliness of the Japanese people we have met. They have all been so kind, so gentle, and their warmth just radiates from their beings.
*The serenity, holiness and sense of piety at the Buddhist and Shinto ceremonies we have witnessed and have taken part in
* The incredible Ms. Miyoko Matsubara who survived the A-bomb devestation, and whose courage in telling her story was breathtaking
* The overwhelming sadness of the Hiroshma Peace Memorial Museum
* The incredibly crowded subways that run like clockwork and that can take you anywhere in this country
* The cleanliness of the Japanese cities- populations ion the millions- with no litter. no populations ion the millions- with no litter. no graffitti, no tagging, anywhere that I could see
* The delightful and beautriful children we have met who seem fascinated by us tourists, who love to have their pictures taken , always smiling, and who want a peaceful world
* The master tea maker whose family has been making tea for over 5 genertions and whose dedication to his work transcends the material world which consumes our society and speaks to what is truly important in life. He does not use a cell phone or a computer and teaches his students and children the value and pleasure of putting his heart, mind and body into his work.
These are just a few, and as we move on, I am certain that there will be even more people, places and events that simply defy description.
Til then
Steve
